Karl Stocker, head of the departement of Informationdesign at the University of Applied Sciences, FH Joanneum writes about our mutual visit in the Japanes Cities of Kobe and Nagoya, both members in the UNESCO Creative City Network as Cities of Design.

During our visit we felt fantasticly welcomend, spent hours on so many interesting talks and we are now looking forward to all mutual projetcs, that we discussed.

Architecture from Styria - the Movie

 

Creative Industries Styria produced a video to promote Architecture from the Austrian Province. Based on core-competences like wood-construction or buildings for the health care sector, the video shows an astonishing range of projects.

Design Thinking in the Public Sector

A little movie, that shows how Design Thinking can improve the public sector as a whole and even save tax money.

 

CITY OF (OPEN) DESIGN - A PRO

Sure, being a Grazer by birth or by learning, you somehow get used to being disappointed time and again. All the same, I am optimistic about the City of Design. Why?

City of Design is not a lot of the things you might expect. It is not a festival, it has no end, no gigantic budget, no City of Design boss, and, in truth, it isn't even a title.

City of Design is an invitation by UNESCO and an ensuing commitment. It is an obligation to reflect on one's own city and to develop projects suited to improving the lives of people living in the city with lasting effect. One of the basic conditions is to share this experience with other cities and perhaps even to develop other, joint projects.

City of Graz announced UNESCO City of Design!

Graz was declared City of Design! On 16. 03. 2011 the Director-
General of UNESCO in Paris, Ms Irina Bokova, officially announced the inclusion of Graz into the international network of creative cities.
