The Austrian Alpine Association owns over 200 mountain huts and cabins. Many of these are easy to reach today and they have thus lost some of their anchorage in a rescue function.
KMDcc Martin Krammer Consultants for Creative Economy Projects was commissioned with a potential analysis and concept for the further development of Alpine huts, as exemplified by the Mörsbachhütte in Austria’s Lower Tauern Mountains. The condition of the building and the mode of operation could no longer provide sustainable profit and accommodation quality.
We examined all the economic, technical and cultural criteria. We developed together with the client a new concept for Alpine huts at these altitudes based on the results taking contemporary trends in Alpine tourism into consideration. Aiming at a profitable and qualitative development ushering in careful change with the aspects of greater contexts and architectural workmanship under its wings we generated a pilot-project for huts facing similar challenges.
And what’s coming next?
The analysis generated enormous interest and demonstrated numerous uses and business possibilities for comparable properties. We have currently moved on to the implementation together with the client.
