Parkmagazine - Call for Artists

Starting in 2010 and based in Porto, Portugal, PARK [art magazine] is a joint project wich aims to bring together as many creative minds as possible, from different backgrounds and willing to share their work through a home-grown printed publication dedicated to art&culture, making it's way into the web as a digital online edition in the form of a flip mag as well as downloadable PDF.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Your submissions must be sent until 10/12/2010 to:

Each e-mail should have a maximum size of 25MB. If necessary, bigger files may be compressed (ZIP, RAR)

Please include the following info: name, age, email / blog / site, city, country and a short CV.

WORKS

- Drawing, painting, illustration, design, sculpture, installation, video , text essay, photography…

- Formats: PSD, JPG, TIFF (video links)

- Each image should be sent wit as much definition as possible, up to 300 dpi’s, minimum 150 dpi’s.

- File names should contain each work’s title+date.

- When sending series, these should be disposed according to their presentation order.

- Photography: Send at least 4 photos (serie). Single photos won’t be considered.

 

A Room for London - competition

A new project by Living Architecture and Artangel in association with the Southbank Centre and the London 2012 Festival.

At the beginning of the Olympic year of 2012, London will witness the inauguration of what will become one of its smallest yet most original and talked-about new temporary buildings: A Room for London.

The room will sit on top of the Queen Elizabeth Hall roof at the Southbank Centre in London and will allow up to two guests at a time a chance to spend a unique night in an exemplary work of art and architecture overlooking the British capital.

This one-bedroom temporary home/hotel is being commissioned by Living Architecture and Artangel, two of Britain's leading cultural organisations. We are inviting architects, as well as architects working with artists and/or engineers and designers, from across the world to propose their designs.

Notes for Submissions

• Submissions should be in PDF format and no more than 5 A4 pages. Entries any longer than this will automatically be discounted.
• The deadline for submissions is midnight on 30th November 2010.
• Submissions must include the following:
• Contact details (name, email address, phone number).
• A short CV of the participant (s) indicating relevant past experience, especially with demountable structures.
• Visual material that gives as clear an idea as possible of how the structure will look from close-up (internally and externally), and how it will sit in the broader landscape.
• Evidence of how the Room will comply with the load requirements outlined in the technical specification.
• Submissions must be made by fully-qualified architects (registered in your country of residence, please provide evidence) or established architectural firms; in the case of architects collaborating on the scheme with artists/engineers/designers, the scheme should be submitted by the architects involved.
• All applicants must have full professional indemnity insurance, covering the UK (please provide confirmation of this).

 The 9th edition of this international event on design, innovation and brands has Japan as a partner country and is themed ‘Lost and Found’. Speakers at the BODW Forum include Dai Fujiwara, Naoto Fukasawa, Kengo Kuma, Masakki Kanai of Muji, Toshio Yamagata from Shiseido, Manabu Kawada of Yamaha, Hitoshi Suyama from Nikon and contributions by Kigge Hvid of Denmark’s Index and Ascan Mergenthaler of Herzog & de Meuron. Another part of the programme sees the sixth DesignEd Asia Conference, jointly organised by School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong Design Institute, and co-organised by Hong Kong Design Centre.

The Saint Étienne International Design Biennial

The Saint Étienne International Design Biennial is a unique event in the domain of design, due to the exhibitions shown as well as the diversity of its attendees. The Biennial democratizes design and makes it accessible to all kinds of audiences, proving that this creative discipline can take many forms, and is often driven by human aspects, including its uses by humans.

The Biennial is very different from a commercial fair. It is built on exhibitions, out of a strong will to promote contemporary creations. All objects, images, and services exhibited to the visitors may either question serious issues or show unexpected visions. For the first time, the 2010 Saint Étienne International Design Biennial will take over the Platine and its exhibition sites as well as its auditorium and lecture rooms. The biennial will also be present in other sites more east from the former arms factory. The H building presented for the first time in 2008 will host once again the main part of the event and its surface should double to occupy the nearby building.

The Cité du design organizes, in partnership with the City of Montreal, a conference on Design and mobility in the creative cities, within the framework of theXXIIIrd Entretiens Jacques Cartier on 23rd November  during  the Saint-Etienne International Design Biennial 2010. 

This conference will get together keynote speakers such as Jaime Lerner, President of Jaime Lerner Institute (Curitiba, Brazil), Mireille Apel-Muller, Managing Director of Institut pour la Ville en Mouvement (Paris, France) and designers and creators from the Unesco creative design cities : Buenos Aires, Berlin, Kobe, Montreal, Nagoya, Shanghai, Shenzhen (appointed cities), Saint-Etienne and Seoul (candidate cities) . 

It will be the opportunity of sharing innovative experiences on development of creativity and urban mobility culture in relation with our new life systems and uses. 

Organized in the context of the partnership existing between Saint Étienne and Montreal  since 1998, this meeting follows the 2009 conference Cities as design labs.

The DMY International Design Festival 2011 will anew take place at central former airport Berlin Tempelhof from June 1-5, 2011.

As of now, designers, companies and design schools can apply to exhibit within the next festival edition. The deadline for applications is Monday, February 14, 2011. Young designers (up to three years after graduation / under 30 years old) and design schools can apply as exhibitors within the module New talents / Youngsters. The module is dedicated to the support of young talents and the presentation of pioneering, research-driven projects.

DMY International Design Festival at Airport Berlin Tempelhof

All exhibitions and events of the DMY International Design Festival 2011 will take place from June 1 -5 at former city airport Berlin Tempelhof. Its majestic entrance hall, spacious and light-flooded aviation hangars and the sheer endless open space of the former landing strips will again provide an impressive backdrop for the festival’s events and exhibitions. The festival will once again occupy more than 11.000 sqm. New talents as well as professional designers and renowned brands will launch and present new works within the field of product design – be it furniture solutions, interior accessories, lighting, industrial design or multidisciplinary endeavours. The participating exhibitors will be selected by an international festival jury including renowned designers Jerszy Seymour, Werner Aisslinger and Jurgen Bey.

Festival Events

Numerous events will frame the presentations of the exhibition. The various events offer insights into contemporary currents within the design fields and give designers the opportunity to get in contact with designers, manufacturers and distributors in a concentrated, yet cheerful and relaxed atmosphere. The symposium explores current and critical themes in expert panels and  lectures. Next to the thematic focus of the symposium, the country focus 2011 will give firsthand insights into the design habitat of Finland. Via individual and group showcases, expert contributions, public and professional programmes as well as events, designers, institutions and curators will reveal little known aspects into the design philosophy and outstanding accomplishments of their country. The designer dinner is an integral part of the country focus inviting all exhibitors of the festival and influential representatives of industry, politics and culture to an evening of culinary delicacies of the country in focus.

In cooperation with the Bauhaus Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung, we will anew honour the three most exceptional products and projects among all submissions of participants. The winners of the DMY Awards will be announced at the evening Award Ceremony during the festival. Furthermore the Maker Lab and various Workshops will give access to new technologies and materials during the festival and invite to share, learn and create new techniques, design strategies and attitudes.

With over 700 exhibiting designers from over 30 nations and its dense program of far-reaching, yet concentrated events, the DMY International Design Festival has grown into a genuine international hub for the design scene.

The SpireTec Competition

Announcing an architectural design competition for a 62,750 square metres mixed use area that is part of an IT office complex spread across 85,000 square metres of land; with a built potential of 1,75,000 square metres. The complex is in Greater Noida; part of the Delhi - National Capital Region (NCR). The NCR is spread over an area of 33,578 square kilometres. It is the ninth largest urban agglomeration in the world. The site for the SPIRETEC project lies adjacent to the flood plain of the river Yamuna.

Awards and Citations

Upto five honourable mentions will get an award of US$10,000 each. Three winners will get an award of US$25,000 each. The AOD shall receive a contract of US$250,000.

World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 invites proposals

Proposals for programme items are now accepted by World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 and can be submitted through February 11, 2011.

 

Proposals can be made by anybody – an individual, team, corporation or other organization – and they can be for locally or internationally organized projects. Proposals should be submitted online using the form found on this Website.

 

“World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 is more than a one-year programme,” says Programme Director Kaarina Gould, explaining, “Besides events, the programme will also consist of other types of contents and initiatives. We are looking for projects that introduce sustainable solutions for the challenges presented by our changing environment.”

 

World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 approaches design from a wide perspective. The organizers seek proposals that introduce new ways in which citizens actively participate in and impact the development of their living environments. The organizers seek solutions that advance the quality of life and general happiness. Projects should also address how to utilize design in novel ways to promote economic growth.

 

The programme will be compiled by International Design Foundation. The Foundation is not the primary source of funding for projects and welcomes projects that can fully fund themselves. In some cases the Foundation can provide financial support for projects.

 

All proposals will be reviewed by the staff of International Design Foundation and other specialists. Agreements on projects can be made before the end of the proposal submission period. Information on further review of proposals, acceptance of projects for implementation, and rejection of proposals will be released during the spring of 2011.

 

The primary region for project implementation is the five participating cities in the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 project, that is, Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen and Lahti.
